For many fans, music has always been an important part of the identity of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Previous parts of the anime became especially memorable for their distinctive ending themes, many of which created a strong connection between the music, the atmosphere of the story, and the cultural influences surrounding each Part.

Steel Ball Run has an especially distinctive setting and identity.

The story takes place during an extraordinary race across the United States at the end of the 19th century. Its world evokes the American frontier, Western imagery, long journeys across deserts and wilderness, rivalry, tragedy, friendship and personal transformation.

Because of this, many viewers expected an ending theme that would reinforce or complement that atmosphere.

After hearing “Shinukaikiruka,” some fans feel that the song does not create the same connection with the setting, tone and musical identity they associate with Steel Ball Run.

This does not mean that the song itself is bad.

A song can be good independently while still feeling, to some viewers, like an unusual choice for a particular story.

What are we asking for?
We respectfully ask the production committee to consider:

Changing the ending theme for a future Stage of Steel Ball Run, or introducing an additional ending theme that better reflects the atmosphere and identity of the series.

We are not demanding one particular artist or song.

Instead, we would welcome a musical direction inspired by elements associated with Steel Ball Run, such as:

Western and frontier music
Country
Folk
Blues
Classic rock
Americana
Alternative rock
Music that evokes travel across the American landscape
Another possibility would be the use of a Western song whose atmosphere, lyrics or historical influence resonates with the themes of Steel Ball Run, continuing the long tradition of musical references that has helped make JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure unique.

Fans have waited many years to see Steel Ball Run animated.

The work being done by the directors, animators, voice actors, musicians and production staff deserves recognition, and this request should not overshadow that work.

We are raising this issue precisely because music is such an important part of the experience of watching JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

We hope the production team will consider the feedback of international and Japanese fans as the adaptation continues.
