For 10 years KORS, Keep the Original Route Supporters Inc, has been campaigning for a less environmentally destructive route for the Western Highway Upgrade, Buangor to Ararat.

KORS has independent evidence to prove there is a less destructive route, environmentally and culturally, that makes use of the current alignment.

KORS also believes the alternative route is significantly cheaper to build. ($60 million in 2017, around $100 in 2026) Construction cost is $6.6 Million/km for alternative route (2017) vs $15 Million/km for the deviation. The alternative route does not involve major earth works or extensive cut-and-fill through a valley.  It needs only one bridge, not two. 

We expect our taxes to be spent responsibly. $100 million can be well spent elsewhere.

Victoria cannot afford the luxury of ignoring evidence of a financially responsible, culturally and environmentally sensitive route.

If you agree and prefer the less financially, culturally and environmentally expensive alternative route please take the time to ring or email your local member of parliament or the relevant Minister, below, to register your support for the alternative route for the Western Highway, Buangor to Ararat. In this election year, the politicians are sensitive to public opinion. Your contact with politicians makes our efforts far more effective.

It doesn’t have to be a long letter, simply “I support the alternative alignment for the Buangor to Ararat highway upgrade” is sufficient. Your name and address are required to register your opinion. However, if you have more to say about unnecessary environmental destruction, cultural disrespect and financial irresponsibility, please go ahead.
