Petition updateWestern Highway cheaper, safer, sooner:No Go Zone flags deviate to exclude old tree!

There was no need to fell the huge trees, on the Western Highway, last week. Treeless acquired land extends 30 metre-wide right next to the tree felling, where the road could have gently diverged with regulation curves for 110 kph.

Why didn’t MRPV plan that? Because we have a roads authority that likes straight lines, not our real natural world. It also has no comprehension of the serious damage it is doing by stripping the world of its ancientness. Or if it does comprehend, it has the bad-boy disdain for caring about what others hold dear. They say all this is for safety but that is a trick. No-one can be against safety, that’s a no brainer. The point is, how do you get your safety? By destroying ancient trees that will NEVER be replaced, or by taking care, and with more design work to use the space available for a more interesting and gently curved road.

We have been trying to get the right kind of engineer to look at the situation, but the large majority of them earn a living from the destructive process governed by MRPV. So virtually none of them will dare to speak against MRPV. I have heard that MRPV is known to be quite dictatorial towards contractors. They tell the contractor what to do, what to cross out. A big dark secret area, where inexpert members of the public are not allowed. How could a voter or citizen ever get advice with the same credibility as all those in harness for MRPV? So much for the much vaunted consultation process. That’s why we need the freedom to object.

This is happening within the mediated 3.8 km area common to both Option 1 and the Northern Option. KORS accepts that some destruction will happen..but this is ruthless vandalism...with clear direction from our elected representatives to MRPV to prioritise the environment in all designs,  MRPV would not be this destructive. Who is responsible?

This is a small section of a well watched upgrade, what is happening at other road construction sites?

If you are concerned by this unnecessary destruction let your local elected state representative know.
