This graffito signals a death warrant for this tree. It could also signal the time some of us are moved to write in protest to Premier Andrews, and Planning Minister Wynne. Many of our politicians have the power to intervene and protect, and each individual voice will motivate them, enough voices combined will pressure them to stop this vandalism. Trees like this aren't made any more. The use of Australian land for agriculture pretty much precludes it: this tree needed at least 500 years without a grazing herds to become established, and it is at least two centuries since it became part of indigenous material culture. Apart from destroying the environment, it is troubling and odd to me that the minister for Aboriginal Affairs does not see value in this tree. Natalie Hutchins MP has not stepped up to see this tree protected, in its landscape. Why not? Dr Heather Builth has said it is a CMT (Culturally Modified Tree), and her report is being ignored. This tree is a national living treasure but obstructs VicRoads leadership who take inspiration from environmental violence. You have to pity anyone who thinks this tree is trash, in some ways. But not to let them have their way. Their plan after the demolition of this and other very large old trees, is to move a whole hillside (literally), but to ignore the cleared easement on an easier route. This will squanderJoe/Josephine's Citizen's tax bucks. Let's try to keep some Mount Langi Ghiran trees that know Australia's pre-historic past. Trees such as this one.
