A few people have mentioned concerns about funding for street tree planting, and I wanted to address that here. I completely understand that the council cannot suddenly plant hundreds of trees or stretch a budget that does not exist. This petition is not asking for anything unrealistic.
The goal is to show that residents care about greener streets, so the council can plan ahead, apply for grants, and prioritise planting in the areas where it is practical. Even small increases each year would make a positive difference over time.
Some people have suggested community fundraising. That could be a future option, but the first step is simply demonstrating public support. Once the council sees that residents want this, it becomes easier for them to explore grants, partnerships, or supported planting schemes.
