Dear community members,
Thanks to every person who signed the petition, shared their concerns, and supported this effort. A sincere thanks as well to those who contributed funds and helped promote the petition. Your generosity, trust, and commitment to our community are deeply appreciated.
I became aware this morning of a project update from the NSW Department of Education confirming that the catchment for the new high school for Schofields and Tallawong has been finalised. As a result, it appears unlikely that the petition will lead to any changes to the catchment arrangements.
The update can be viewed here:
https://www.schoolinfrastructure.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/infrastructure/projects/new-schools/new-high-school-for-schofields-and-tallawong/2026/02-feb/new-hs-for-Schofields-Tallawong-Project-Update-February-2026.pdf
Community members who wish to seek further clarification may choose to direct their enquiries to schoolinfrastructure@det.nsw.edu.au.
This outcome is deeply disappointing. It is particularly upsetting that many families who have been advocating for a local high school since 2021, and who engaged respectfully and in good faith over many years, now find themselves excluded from the final catchment.
At this stage, it is unclear whether the catchment area will be reviewed in the future. Accordingly, this petition will now be closed and a link to it will be forwarded to Warren Kirby and The Hon. Prue Car MP for their consideration.
While this is not the outcome the community had hoped for, the unity, care, and determination shown throughout this process should not be understated. The hundreds of signatures reflect real families, real children, and a genuine desire for fairness and inclusion.
Thank you again for standing together and supporting this effort.
Vithal
