Dear Campaigners,
We hope this email finds you well and that you are keeping up the good work in advocating for a fairer and more professional private rented sector.
We are writing to share with you some exciting news: Propertymark has submitted written evidence to the Public Bill Committee on the Renters (Reform) Bill, highlighting our concerns and recommendations on the proposed reforms.
The Renters (Reform) Bill is a landmark piece of legislation that aims to improve the rights and protections of renters in England. It includes measures such as abolishing Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions, introducing lifetime deposits, and requiring landlords to join a redress scheme.
As the leading professional body for the sector, Propertymark has been actively engaging with the UK Government and the Committee to ensure that the Bill reflects the views and interests of our members and the wider industry.
In our written evidence, we have raised several key points, such as:
The need to retain fixed-term tenancies as an option for both landlords and tenants
The need to make certain grounds for eviction mandatory rather than discretionary
The need to regulate property agents and align the existing redress schemes1
The need to enhance tenancy agreements and allow flexibility in deposit levels for pets.
We believe that our evidence will help the Committee to scrutinise the Bill and make amendments that will benefit both landlords and tenants, as well as improve the standards and reputation of the sector.
We would like to thank you for your continued support and involvement in our campaigns. Together, we can make a difference and shape the future of renting.
Please feel free to share this email with your networks and contacts, and encourage them to join our campaign community.
Please also continue to share the link on change.org and combat injustice towards landlords.
Best regards,
