Pit bulls are being banned in Colorado cities. The laws are the reason for many pit bulls being put down. This also make it impossible for pet lovers to live in Denver if they own a banned dog breed.

We can fix this by repealing the breed specific legislation laws.

I started this petition because...
In Colorado there are cities that ban the pit bull breed on the grounds that they are dangerous animals. Some of these cities include Commerce City, Denver, Louisville, Aurora, and Bloomfield. This ban is called Breed-Specific legislation and is an unfair punishment for all responsible pit bull owners.

BSL or Breed-Specific Legislation usually does more harm than good. Firstly, BSL creates an automatic stigma that pit bulls are dangerous. When really the danger you need to fear is the owner. “Dogs are products of their environment as well as their genetics,” (Enos). Pit bull's behavior reflects how the owner trained them.

We as a community need to stop prejudice against pit bulls. We need to spread awareness about the mistreatment of this beautiful breed. Think about this as if it was happening to people. A group of people for whatever reason is banned from these areas. If a person of the group is found in these areas, then they will be killed. Also, if any dog looks like a pit bull it most is commonly called a pit bull. This mistake will lead to their death. That means in the human situation a person would die for a fact that is false.

We need to repeal this law. This law is unjust and needs to be changed. This law is not constitutional because people who own a pit bull are persecuted. Essentially banning pit bulls' banns their owners too.

Please sign this petition to fix our laws. Pit bulls are not vicious animals, and they don’t deserve to be treated as such. I believe Colorado is above killing the innocent.
