Petition That BC Require LG Officials Make Recusals on Zoning Decisions Impacting Campaign Donors
BC Bill-44 has highlighted the importance of ending what can be considered ethical conflict of interest behind land-use decision-making in the Province - that puts developers and their lobbyists at the helm of housing policy, while cutting the public out of the political process through denying them a vast amount of public hearings, while massively upzoning their communities, and thus ignoring local plans for their communities at whatever the collateral cost.
Similarly as this petition has stood up against this unilateral curbing of municipal sovereignty by the Province, a new petition calls upon the Province of British Columbia to require through law that all elected officials in local government recuse themselves on zoning votes when the decisions concern the direct interests of their campaign donors involved in development and real estate.

Democracy means 'rule by the people'. We need to return the people to the governmental process in BC by the Province immediately repealing/amending Bill-44, and also by the Province ending the potential for undue influence and ethical conflict of interest on local government decision-making, by separating funds from developers and realtors for campaigns, from political decisions on land-use that can directly benefit the same parties.
Thank you again for all your support in standing up for Democracy in British Columbia!
