On 31 August 2018, the Penal Code Committee submitted its proposed amendments to the Penal Code to Mr K Shanmugam, Singapore's Minister for Law and Home Affairs.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Law is now inviting public feedback on these proposed amendments to the Penal Code (full report may be viewed on MHA, Mlaw and REACH's website). Although Section 377A of the Penal Code is not included in the report, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Law are welcome to other suggestions regarding the Penal Code, on top of views on the already proposed amendments.

Following in the footsteps of another petition regarding the same issue, I will be submitting this petition to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law as part of the aforementioned public feedback collection exercise. I strongly urge everyone reading this to spread this petition as much as you can over the next few weeks, so that we can collect as many signatures as possible before submission of feedback is due on 30 September 2018.

The Penal Code Amendment Bill is targeted to be tabled in Parliament in November 2018.

Additionally, in response to several comments, I would like to clarify that this petition is regarding both the legalisation of same sex marriage in Singapore, as well as the repeal of Section 377A of the Penal Code. I would also like to clarify that I created this petition last year, and that the creation of the petition has no intention of "copying" nor "derailing" the other petition that I had mentioned earlier, which was only created a few days ago. In fact, I encourage everyone to sign their petition, and any other petitions campaigning for the same cause as well.
