The crimes of rape and sexual abuse are rooted in our daily lives in ways societies and cultures have taught us for generations to overlook, to normalize, and to allow without interference. Sex jokes, rape jokes, looking the other way when sexual harassment takes place, silencing survivors who speak up, and people (both men and women) who enable "locker room talk" all feed the pyramid of behaviors that make up Rape Culture. 

It's not just fish food. It's not just another sexist piece of advertising and marketing. It's not just a joke.

It's the start of an abusive mode of behavior that destroys human lives.

It's dangerous because people "just" see it as fish food. "So what?" they may ask.

And that's what the foundational elements of Rape Culture want you to think. That it's "not a big deal" and not worth your attention. That's what gives Rape Culture its power.
