Sexism, gender discrimination and sexual harassment exist in the worlds of exotic pets and science.  "Morning Wood" is not an appropriate name for fish food, and our petition shows how it promotes sexism and can actually contribute to rape culture. 

This offensive product helps makes the point that other people and groups have protested about for years. 

Attached to this update you will find a link from Inclusive Herpetology with an open letter to the Turtle Survival Alliance demanding changes to the way women are treated.  It will give you an example of the kinds of efforts undertaken by people who, in the words of Inclusive Herpetology, want to “create climates where all people feel welcomed and accepted regardless of gender identity, race, age, ethnicity, religion, ability, national origin, immigrant status, or sexual orientation."

Respect women, treat others with dignity and empathy, and protect not just the fish, reptiles and amphibians we study and love, but also the people devoted to their protection.

So let's change the name of that fish food.  It's not funny, it's offensive.  And it's indicative of a much larger cultural problem in the worlds of herpetology, ichthyology and the exotic pet trade.  Sexism, sexual harassment and rape culture have no place here or anywhere else.

Please share our petition and spread the word.  Repashy must change the name of its fish food.  It's immoral, it's offensive, and it's abusive.  It has no place in the commercial pet food market where many customers are families, women and girls.  "Morning Wood" needs to go.
