Happy Saturday!
It was with great appreciation that I woke up this morning to find that my petition had received 100 signatures on its first day. This shows how much Oakland cares about maintaining facilities that serve diverse communities, including our youth and disabled athletes.
Two important things you should know about Live Oak pool:
- It is the city's only public competition-length pool and is used by Oakland High and Oakland Parks and Recreation for swim meets.
- It has two pools - a deep pool and a separate shallow pool that is helpful for Special Olympics athletes with mobility and other challenges.
Both of my children have participated in Oakland’s summer swim league and Special Olympics, and I recognize how important it is for families to have a facility nearby so that they can easily participate in these programs.
The time is crucial, while Oakland is in a budget cycle, to make our voices heard - please take a moment to share this petition within your community circles. If everyone who has signed shares with 5 people, over 500 more people would be aware of the travesty of this pool sitting in disrepair for almost two years!
Please also consider reaching out directly to your city council representative or to the main city council email - council@oaklandca.gov - to let them know about your personal experiences with Live Oak Pool and why this matters to you!
In community,
Inga
