From behind closed doors, the Army Corps of Engineers has decided to strip off the largest patriotic Mural in America come Spring of 2015. The Corps held no public hearings or appointed commissions to review the Mural's historical significance, it's uniqueness in the public square, it's patriotic values, it's definition as public art and an historical monument, as well as community loyalty to it. This is a disturbing point, because what is not being made clear to the public, is that without assurances in place to restore the original Mural before it's destruction, it will be lost for all time. After the slate has been wiped clean, as Col. Colloton of the Corps put it, the only way to get the original mural restored will be to, "Go through a committee of representatives that will include Corps representatives, elected officials, community groups, ecology groups..." and last and least you the public. So when you hear the Corps say they want to engage the public, do they mean handing out political favor to powerful special interest groups and organizations for a self serving mural designed by committee? The public never asked the Corps to design a new Mural. The petition overwhelmingly states the desire of the public, is to restore the 1976 Bicentennial Mural. So unless the Corps has another public petition handed to them with over 1,200 heart felt signatures requesting a newly designed mural, then just who are they speaking for? Not a single politician in the area will go on record to support a vintage restoration of the Mural! So, it's now up to you to put them to task. It is time to contact your local politicians, the Corps, along with, T.V., News Papers, Blogs, legal counsel and Radio, to approve the petition, to allow for an independent restoration of the Mural, if the Corp is unable to ensure a vintage restoration.
