COOPER'S LAW: REQUIRE EVERY DAYCARE TO CALL THE PARENT WHEN A CHILD IS ABSENT

The Issue

I started Cooper's Law to create awareness of children being "forgotten" and left in vehicles. Every year in the United States, there is an average of 38 children who die as a result of hyperthermia after being left in a hot car. Most of these cases result from the child being forgotten on the way to their daycare. Recently, 22-month-old Cooper Harris was left in his father's car for an entire day after his father forgot to drop him off at daycare. There is still much controversy over the involvement of his parents. However, I believe if his daycare would have made one phone call to ask about Cooper's absence, there would be a more clear answer to this case, and Cooper may have even been saved. Please sign this petition to enact Cooper's Law - a law that will REQUIRE every daycare to call the parent/guardian as soon as a child's absence that day is evident. This law cannot replace the tiny little lives that have been lost, but it can save many more in the future!
