The petition has now reached almost 500 signatures. Thank you everyone for your support. Its success has already flushed out some of the instigators behind the opportunistic extension of the parking ban. These people live on an adjacent road themselves and park their cars on that road free of charge. Their group is named after the road they park their own cars on. They have put out a video with The Star describing this petition as nonsence - please take a look at the links below.
The council are keeping the road closed on an emergency prohibition notice, citing a "likelihood of danger to the public." Yet the people supporting the closure are giving all sorts of other reasons. One of them even claims that not liking the sight of cars outside the park when looking out from inside is a valid justification. None of these reasons would justify a lawful closure under the process that has been used. It is simple the road has been kept closed under false pretences and due process has not been followed.
The woman in this interview says that this petition is nonsense. She says that while standing in front of bollards that create a dead space at the bottom half of the road near the entrance. She justifies these bollards being there by suggesting that they provide better access to the park for large event vehicles. It clearly does not - people could park there in that space and have no impact. In fact, if it was open, the same large vehicles would be able to turn around by reversing into the park entrance after passing the entrance. No, that is a nonsense argument.
I can also see the instigators going onto environmental group pages and misrepresenting this campaign as an increase in car parking or a destruction of green space, when in reality it is simply about keeping the road in its normal use. They do this while encouraging others to pile onto the star facebook page. I would ask everyone reading this to visit the Sheffield Star article and see for yourselves what is being said. Please also follow the Facebook link, read the comments, and respond to some of these claims. Some of what is being posted is becoming personal and unpleasant from these people.
