Thank you for all the wonderful support. As of now, in only 5 days, we have garnered over 700 signatures...And counting. This is a fantastic showing of community support and togetherness. This is what "grassroots" is all about. The next step in the civic process is that the Community Development Staff Report will be released Friday to the Planning Commission, as well as the public. It is believed that the staff report will recommend an approval for the Steamboat Meadows Development, including approving the rezoning and annexation into the City. Then the Planning Commission will hold it's meeting Wednesday March 1st. The March 1st meeting is at City Hall at 6 p.m. and open to public comment. If you do not show up to this meeting your comments, thoughts, and opinions will not be heard by the Planning commission. It is for this reason we will be having another community meeting at Pleasant Valley Elementary School Tuesday Feb 28 at 6-8 p.m. to formulate and discuss our game plan for the March 1st meeting (no developers will be there). At this time we think it is a good idea to immediately (today) inundate the Planning Commission with letters of opposition similar to the ones we sent to Community Development and Reno City Council (you can even send the same email letter if you like). The general email for the Planning Commission is: RenoPlanningCommission@reno.gov. Individual Commissioners' email addresses are as follows; (send to ALL) Peter Gower (chair ward 2) GowerP@reno.gov Ed Hawkins (ward 4) HawkinsE@reno.gov Mark Johnson (vice ward2) JohnsonM@reno.gov Paul Olivas (ward 5) OlivasP@reno.gov Chuck Reno (ward5) RenoC@reno.gov Troy Schneider (ward1) SchneiderT@reno.gov Kevin Weiske (ward2) WeiskeK@reno.gov Jenny Brekhuse (council liaison) BrekhuseJ@reno.gov When writing these letters please don't forget to comment on how well the Reno City Council has done at revitalizing MidTown and Downtown and that we would like to see them continue focusing on the nucleus of the City and not divert their attention and resources to a small chunk of land at their Southern-most border. Again, Thank you for all the support and hopefully we will prevail in doing what is best for all the citizens of Reno. See you Tuesday 2/29/17 at Pleasant Valley Elementary school at 6p.m. and Wednesday 3/1/17 at Reno City Hall at 6 p.m.
