We Need Your Help Today!
My name is Kayla Wilson, and I wish to thank the over 10,000 people who showed solidarity by signing my petition to change the name of Robert E. Lee High School in the North East ISD. I confess that I was not prepared for the hatred and invective heaped on me by my school district and many from within the NEISD and some from outside.
One true gentleman who had the courage to stand by me was Retired US Air Force Officer, Major Chris Herring who now seeks a position on the North East School Board. He was able to meet with three of the Board Members, asking them to support my First Amendment Right of Freedom of Speech free from intimidation or reprisal. In District 1, where Chris Herring lives, the 16-year incumbent refused to meet with him!
Can you imagine that? Chris Herring is a constituent, a parent of NEISD children, a taxpayer, a voter, owner of a pre-school, a retired Air Force Major, Vice President of his Homeowners’ Association, former head of the Alamo City Chamber of Commerce, appointed by two Mayors to workforce commissions, active in his daughters’ PTAs, a member of the Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students), and a man of great faith and courage. And the 16-year incumbent would not meet with him, stating she had all of the information she needed to vote.
Chris Herring stood by me to insure that I received respect. He runs for this office demanding “Respect for All.”
When he was denied an opportunity to meet with the incumbent, he was being denied the opportunity to redress his grievances as spelled out in the First Amendment. In a campaign piece, he stated: “When I joined the United States Air Force, like millions of other veterans, I swore ‘that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.’ I proudly wore the uniform and deployed into combat zones across the world to enable all to petition our government, and I was not afforded that right by the 16-year incumbent.”
I now proudly stand with Chris Herring. I ask you to support him as well. Though many of you do not live in this district and cannot vote for him, I am asking you to send a donation to defray the costs of his campaigning against an entrenched, establishment candidate who has no respect.
We need to raise over $10,000 in the next ten days to run a competitive race, and if each of you could contribute five to ten dollars, it will make the world of difference and give us the resources to bring our message to the District 1 voters.
If you can help, please send a contribution of whatever amount you can afford by symbolically joining his two events scheduled for tomorrow April 25 and April 30th. I will update the group to how he is doing! This is the new battleground to ensure all are RESPECTED:

Thank you for standing with me and for standing with Chris Herring.
Sincerely,
Kayla Wilson
PS: Please don’t forget the same board member Chris is running against also silenced the teachers in their unfair decision to place a gag order on the thousands of teachers and staff as it pertained to my issue. If the teachers educated us on the history of Robert E. Lee they could be fired! This was not respectful! As a result, the major teacher organizations have backed and endorsed Chris Herring over the other two candidates. We have to recognize, in the words of Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. , “ Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Anywhere.”
Please act right now, the voting begins in the morning… we have a chance to change the playing field by my Mentor, advocate and friend!
