The Lightning Ridge Area Opal Reserve Acting Reserve Manager presented the petition and request at the public forum at Walgett Shire Council's meeting today, 27/2/24.

Council was in favour of the decision, which means locally we can begin to call the road Capt. Leo Fransen Way.

There is however some technicalities that need to be sorted out over the year.

To have a road formally named it has to be presented to the Geographical Names Board and meet certain requirements within that process.

Also to name a road in commemoration of someone passing, this can only occur 12 months after the death of the individual.

Therefore, the formal process will start to be undertaken in November 2024.
