The Issue

Imagine looking out your window and seeing not one, but two surveillance cameras capturing who comes and who goes down your road. This is the reality for myself and many others residing in Coker, Alabama. These so-called flock cameras have been installed with no prior notice and certainly without our consent, infringing on our basic right to privacy and security within our own community.

The installation of these cameras not only feels like a constant invasion of privacy but also seems to serve as an unwarranted surveillance tool by law enforcement. In this day and age, the unchecked expansion of surveillance technology should be concerning to us all. When we pay our taxes, we trust that they are spent on initiatives to improve our community, not on invasive surveillance systems that make us feel powerless and watched, in a space that should be inherently safe and private.

Under the United States Constitution, we are entitled to certain inalienable rights. The Fourth Amendment clearly protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures, and yet, the presence of these cameras in Coker blatantly disregards this fundamental right. There have been no credible justifications provided for these installations, no evidence of heightened crime in our neighborhood that warrants such extreme measures. Simply put, these cameras are unconstitutional and their implementation has been executed without community consent or input.

Let's not be complacent. We deserve more transparency in the way our tax dollars are utilized. We deserve the right to privacy in our own neighborhoods. Above all, we deserve respect for our constitutional rights. This is not just a personal grievance; it is a community issue that sets a troubling precedent.

Let's unite as a community to demand the immediate removal of these flock cameras in Coker. Sign this petition to voice your opposition and reclaim our right to privacy!
