TPUSA Wants to ONLY Bring Conservative Ideas to CCCC

Coastal Carolina Community College has approved a Turning Point USA chapter whose stated mission is to promote “conservative ideas” on campus. In doing so, the college has ignored the political diversity of its student body and shown a willingness to punish those who voice concerns—most visibly in the case of Professor Chris Schulte, who faced swift consequences after speaking out.

TPUSA publicly brands itself as a defender of “free speech,” yet its actions tell a different story. The organization has celebrated the firing of a professor for expressing his views, despite conservatives’ frequent claims of opposing “cancel culture.” And this is not an isolated situation—across the country, students, faculty, and speakers who have criticized Charlie Kirk or TPUSA have faced backlash, online targeting, or organized pressure campaigns.

The chapter’s materials also openly support Israel’s current actions in Palestine, using a map that erases Palestine entirely. This aligns TPUSA with Zionist political positions that many students on campus do not share, and that directly impact Palestinian, Muslim, Arab, and allied students.

By approving this chapter without acknowledging the harm it may cause to students with opposing political beliefs—and by disciplining those who speak up—CCCC has failed to uphold an environment of genuine free expression. The message is clear: certain viewpoints are welcomed, and others are punished.
