Remove the racist anti-littering ads from the New York transit system

The New York City MTA has launched a new anti-littering campaign. The print ads feature images of individuals holding signs that are intended to describe the consequences of littering in the subways; however as designed, the signs appear to label the individuals. For example, one ad features a Black woman holding a sign that says "dangerous" and a Latina woman holding a sign that says "illegal". The ads are offensive and reinforce stereotypes - even if unintentionally. So far the MTA has responded by justifying the ads and suggesting they are just misunderstood - this is a completely unacceptable response. The ads need to be taken down and the entire campaign needs to be redesigned.
