Now is the time to remove the non-native peafowl that are a known pest in the suburb of Narrabundah.

Neighbors, other local families and non-vocal residents are extremely concerned, especially those with poultry, of which there are many, of the spread of the Influenza by native birds and even more so by the peafowl that is noted as per attached article link as a highly susceptible bird that can carry the flu.

Given the evidence presented by many renowned organisations as per attached article link the likelihood of the spread of the Avian Influenza through the peafowl is well documented. The amount of defecation that occurs in peoples gutters, waterways, normal gardens in which children play as well as vegetable gardens and all general access areas, it is an issue which should be rectified by a responsible government as soon as possible. At present the ACT Government is inactive and slow to respond to any crisis.

There is also significant research from many countries available confirming and expanding on the attached. I could list many but note many health organisations have also prepared papers on the like.

The peafowl roam freely and have been documented moving to other areas in the area such as the local tip. https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/canberra-breakfast/peacock-finds-new-home-in-mugga-lane/103300800

If the plan is to cull those with suspected Avian Influenza, then surely a non-native species that is now unchecked due to the lack of appropriate ongoing action by the local government (prove to us that the action plan is actually ongoing as last head count there was over 80 of the birds roaming freely) then please do so accordingly, without being influenced by a minority of non-residents to the impacted area and a minority of vocal, local residents who "claim" to represent the community

On behalf of those concerned, please act for the safety of the families, the local community and the economy.
