We are standing at the edge of something new — not just for our faire, but for the entire festival world.

This movement wasn’t born out of perfection. It was born out of love — for our community, our craft, and a shared vision of something better. Along the way, we’ve said things like, “We don’t know what we’re doing.”

Let us explain what that really means.

We know how to run a Renaissance faire. We know how to organize teams, manage operations, build immersive environments, and host thousands of guests with care and creativity. We also know how to recognize corruption, navigate legal systems, and pursue accountability through the proper channels. We are not wandering in the dark. We are moving with intention, guided by truth and backed by expert advice.

What we don’t know — and what no one can predict — is exactly when the government will act, or how those systems will respond. That part is out of our hands. But what is within our control is preparation — and we are preparing for every possible outcome.

This kind of grassroots movement isn’t new in the world of nonprofit reform — but it is new in the festival space. Renaissance faires have long operated without oversight, shaped by a culture that prioritized power over accountability. That era is ending. We’re here to build something better.

What we’re still learning is how to be activists.

We’re learning how to speak truth to power, how to protect each other, how to organize and be heard — not just as individuals, but as a united front. We’re discovering that activism isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about refusing to look away.

We’re not afraid to admit what we’re still learning — because courage isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about standing up anyway.

We know how to build faires. Now we’re learning how to rebuild trust. And we’re doing it together.

Are you with us?
