The issue

In our city, street signs symbolizing community heroes should reflect values of inclusivity, acceptance, and equality. These values have long been at the heart of our diverse and vibrant community, but the recent unveiling of street signs honoring Charlie Kirk directly contradicts them. Charlie Kirk is an individual known for his inflammatory and divisive statements, which many view as supporting racism, xenophobia, homophobia, and misogyny.

This petition is deeply personal to me because, like many in our community, I believe that symbols matter. They tell a story about who and what we choose to honor and ascribe value to. By keeping these signs in place, we are making a clear statement that we condone and support the views and ideology that people like Charlie Kirk promote.

People in power must be held accountable for these symbolic decisions. Local authorities need to reconsider the message they are sending by honoring such individuals. We should reserve our community’s highest honors for those who uplift and unify us, those who make our city a better place for every resident, regardless of their background or beliefs.

I am urging city officials to remove these street signs immediately. Let's ensure our public honors reflect our city's commitment to diversity and unity, rather than division and exclusion. By signing this petition, you’re taking a stand for the kind of community we all want to live in—one characterized by mutual respect and inclusivity.

Please add your name to this petition and join me in sending a powerful message that our city rejects symbols of division and stands steadfast for equality and acceptance. Together, we can make a difference.

As you may know I was the only Council Member against this proposal. I voted no on both the proposal to rename All American Way to “Charlie Kirk Way” and to designate a “Charlie Kirk Day” because I believe our city’s recognitions should reflect unity, local connection, and shared community values. Westminster is a diverse city, and when we choose to honor someone in such a visible and lasting way, it should be someone who brings our community together. Charlie Kirk is a nationally known political figure whose work and messaging have been deeply polarizing across the country. Regardless of where individuals may stand politically, I do not believe it is appropriate for our city to formally elevate a figure associated with that level of division. Just as importantly, there is no meaningful connection between Charlie Kirk and the Westminster community. Our city has many local leaders, veterans, small business owners, and community advocates who have directly contributed to the lives of our residents. Those are the individuals I believe we should be uplifting and recognizing. My vote was not about silencing viewpoints—it was about ensuring that city honors reflect our local identity, respect our diversity, and bring people together rather than divide them.
