I am an employee of the South African Red Cross Society, and I have dedicated countless hours to a cause I believe in deeply—helping our community and extending our hand to those in dire need. However, recent developments have put me and many others in a precarious situation; we’ve been left without support, without guidance, and tragically, without income. The failing leadership of the Secretary General, Molefi Takalo, has led to not only personal and professional setbacks but also hindered our fundamental mission to aid those in need.

Under Molefi Takalo's leadership, the society has been struggling to secure vital funding needed to carry on its operations effectively. Despite numerous pledges to improve our situation, little progress has been made, leaving branches across South Africa unable to perform their work to the full extent. Additionally, internal issues have escalated, leading to illegal firings, including my own, putting dedicated employees in financial turmoil without any warning.

For example, the lack of a concrete fundraising strategy has resulted in an unprecedented drop in donations and financial support. Verifiable sources indicate that while other humanitarian organizations have experienced growth, the South African Red Cross Society under Takalo’s leadership has seen a decline, raising concerns over the management of potential funds and resources.

Morale among employees and volunteers is at an all-time low. I’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication and passion my colleagues and I have for our cause, but without competent leadership, our spirit is waning. We simply can’t allow disorganized management to continue impacting our capacity to help those who rely on our services.

We propose a thorough evaluation of the organization's leadership and an immediate plan to place a dynamic and resourceful leader at the helm. By doing so, we can restore trust among our patrons and donors, securing the funding necessary to make a tangible difference. This change is crucial for the sustainability of our operations and the well-being of everyone depending on us.
