Dear Huazhong Agricultural University,

Professor Ding Yi must be removed from his position with your university because:

(1)    He claims that the kidney transplant of a live cat is a "research breakthrough." Not only is it utterly immoral for Professor Ding Yi to subject helpless stray cats to forced organ removal that will kill them, but “the technology is immature and has been banned in the United States and the United Kingdom. There is not even one academic paper published internationally in China,” states well-respected veterinary doctor Zhu Qinfeng.

(2)    He has opened a commercial training course in which trainees perform kidney transplants on live cats, but this is simply abhorrent animal abuse disguised by white lab coats.

(3)    His outrageous claims and actions will endanger not only the reputation and prestige of your university through affiliation with quack science, but also China’s avant-garde reputation as it leads the way for impressive technological and scientific advancements. This is another reason why it is imperative to show that Chinese universities DO monitor their professors and hold them accountable to stringent standards in terms of both behavior and morality.

(4)    You must act because cats in China already face widespread torture and extreme abuse (see felineguardians.org), and pseudo-science such as Professor Ding Yi’s transplants will only normalize the violence against animals and perpetuate the outdated culture in China that considers animals as objects that do not deserve protection under the law. This must change if China is to truly become a world leader that all nations can admire and desire to emulate.
