We are appalled by the recent finding that Kevin Nagle signed a letter along with other "Business Leaders" in support of Donald Trump just five days after the Access Hollywood tape was leaked to the public. Here is the link.
In the tape, Donald Trump is captured saying, "I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything" in reference to assaulting a married woman and a woman he was about to meet. Commentators and lawyers have described such an action as sexual assault.
Despite the horrendous way Trump speaks of sexually attacking women and abusing his platform to do so, Nagle endorsed him as a presidential candidate.
Our campus has recently identified a crisis with people, primarily men, in power sexually assaulting students. Nagle speaking to our graduating class after supporting and funding Trump is an insult to students who have had their experiences silenced on our campus or otherwise experience sexual violence.
As two survivors ourselves, we are further disappointed by the choice to host Nagle as our commencement speaker. It is an insult to the traumatic experiences that students on this campus, including ourselves, have endured during their time here.
Sincerely,
Venessa and Melanie
