Dear Petition Supporters,
MVWSD is about to lose $19.5M of tax revenue from the City of Mountain View. This loss of revenue will send the school district into a fiscal crisis and will cause drastic cuts to school staff and services that will hurt our children.
Background:
The City of Mountain View stewards the tax revenue from a special tax district in Mountain View called the Shoreline tax district. Since 1969, the City and MVWSD have always come to an amicable agreement on how to share this tax revenue - until recently. For 2024-27, the City has offered to share $6.5M per year with MVWSD - an agreement which MVWSD originally requested. However, MVWSD has since decided to reject this offer, because they want more money. But since the City controls the distribution of tax revenue, MVWSD has no leverage to obtain more.
Time is running out on the City's offer, and if MVWSD does not accept it soon, they will be left with nothing. Dr. Rudolph is already threatening to cut school staff and services if this happens.
MVWSD is gambling with our children's future with their stubborn unwillingness to compromise.
Please write to the MVWSD trustees ASAP and urge them to accept the $6.5M offer from the City before it is too late.
Please email: trustees@mvwsd.org
Thank you.
