Remove dangerous concrete dividers in Baile na Mona
The Issue
I am writing this petition from a place of personal experience and concern. Recently, as I navigated through our neighbourhood, Baile na Mona, I suffered an unfortunate incident at 10 The Alley where one of my car tires burst due to the dangerously sharp concrete drainage ramps and dividers installed on our roads. This experience is not unique but shared amongst many who live and traverse this area frequently.
The concrete dividers, intended to aid in drainage, have become a significant hazard. They not only pose a threat to vehicles but also present a danger to pedestrians who have to manoeuvre around them. The dividers are excessively sharp, causing damage to cars and risking serious injury to cyclists and those walking nearby. It is imperative that we address this issue urgently to prevent further accidents and injuries.
The streets of Baile na Mona should be safe for everyone. It is unacceptable that residents and visitors alike are at risk whenever they use these roads. Numerous cars have suffered damage, with tires burst and undercarriages scraped, incurring avoidable expenses for repairs. The safety of our community is paramount, and measures need to be taken to rectify this situation promptly.
We urge the local council and relevant authorities to remove these hazardous dividers and replace them with safer alternatives. Alternatives could include using rounded and lower-profile kerb edging or implementing drainage solutions that do not interfere with the regular flow of traffic or pose a tripping hazard for pedestrians.
Statistics continually show that road hazards lead to increased accident rates and higher insurance costs, a burden that we should not have to bear due to poor infrastructural decisions. By signing this petition, we can collectively push for change to ensure that the design of our neighborhood roads prioritizes safety above all.
We call upon all residents and those affected by these hazardous concrete dividers to join in this initiative. Let's come together to demand action that will protect us, our vehicles, and our loved ones from unnecessary harm. Please sign this petition to support the removal of these dangerous structures and make Baile na Mona a safer place for everyone.
