For three long years, my friend Sheila Wright and her family have been enduring a nightmare in their own home at 1 Glenwood Park, Glencar, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. Their neighbour has subjected them to relentless mental, physical, and emotional abuse, creating a hostile and untenable living environment.

Sheila, a kind and gentle soul, has lived in constant fear, unable to find peace even in her own sanctuary. Despite the numerous complaints to the council and multiple calls to the Gardai every time an incident occurs, authorities have not taken sufficient action to address this pressing issue. Sheila even went as far as obtaining a restraining order, yet the abuse continues unabated.

Imagine dreading to step outside your door, fearing what venomous insult or veiled threat awaits you. This is the grim reality for Sheila and her family, as well as their friends and close neighbours. Their trust in the system meant to protect them is waning, as their appeals for help seem to fall on deaf ears.

This petition seeks to bring about a change that is desperately needed. We urge the local council to take decisive steps to remove this abusive neighbour from social housing. Not only has the council been informed repeatedly through calls and letters, but evidence gathered over the past three years—including the restraining order—demonstrates a clear and consistent pattern of abuse.

Social housing is intended to provide a safe and supportive community for all its residents. When one individual's aggressive behavior disrupts the peace and safety of others, it is the council's duty to act decisively and compassionately for the well-being of all.
