Hello Everyone!
I hope this message finds you well. We wanted to provide you with an update on the appeal to the Transportation Review Committee’s Ruling that we presented to the School Board last night.
Following the presentation, we have received positive responses from some School Board Members who have assured us that they will engage in discussions with Superintendent Dr. Bernier about the concerns raised in the petition. Their willingness to address the issue is a promising step forward.
On the other hand, we have also been in contact with Leadership at the Transportation Department. They have reaffirmed their position that the current bus stop meets the statutory requirement of "the most reasonably safe location" for bus stops. They expressed their commitment to providing documentation that supports their stance and highlights why the current stop is considered a safer option compared to the suggested clubhouse location. I anticipate this documentation soon and will update everyone as to its contents.
In our recent conversation, the Transportation Department emphasized their concerns about bus timing and the potential impact on trip times, citing existing challenges they face. We emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of our children over slight adjustments in bus schedules. To address their concerns, we proposed a compromise: allowing buses to enter the community only for pickups and maintaining the current bus stop for drop-offs. This way, children can safely walk into the community during drop-offs under the protection of the bus's flashing lights and stop signs.
We are awaiting the documentation promised by the Transportation Department, which they believe will shed light on their decision-making process. As soon as we receive this information, we will share it with you to keep you informed of all developments in this matter.
So what are our next steps?
We will attend the School Board Meeting on March 5th at 6pm. We ask as many people as possible to attend and, if they are able, to speak on our behalf. We wear blue to show solidarity for our cause.
We ask anyone willing to, please email each Board Member individually to encourage them to ask Dr. Bernier to move our Bus Stop. You may use this verbiage, or whatever respectful verbiage and information you prefer:
“I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express our sincere appreciation for your attention to the concerns raised over the Bus Stop at Marina Bay that was presented to the School Board on February 21st.
As we continue to advocate for a safer bus stop location, we understand that discussions can be held with Superintendent Dr. Bernier regarding this matter. We firmly believe that your voice and influence can play a crucial role in bringing about positive change for the safety of our children.
We kindly request that you advocate for the relocation of our current bus stop during your discussions with Dr. Bernier. The concerns outlined in previous communication and at the Board Meeting highlight the need for immediate relocation of the current stop's safety, and we believe that your support will contribute significantly to ensuring the well-being of our community's children.
Your commitment to the betterment of our school district and the safety of its students is truly commendable. By expressing your support for this change, you not only align yourself with the sentiments of concerned parents and constituents but also contribute to fostering an environment where the safety and security of our children are paramount.
We understand the challenges faced by the Transportation Department, but we firmly believe that prioritizing safety should be our shared goal. We have proposed a compromise that addresses their concerns while still enhancing the safety of the bus stop location, and we hope you will consider advocating for this compromise during your discussions.
Thank you for your time, attention, and dedication to the well-being of our community. Your support means a great deal to us, and we look forward to positive developments in this matter.”
Your support and dedication to this cause are greatly appreciated. We will continue to advocate for the safety of our children and work towards a resolution that prioritizes their well-being.
Thank you for standing with us in this important endeavor.
Best regards,
India Palencia
