Thank you so much!
As we continue to fight the Religious Discrimination Bill and Australia becoming another Gilead, we wanted to shine a light on the underhanded tactics our opponents are using in this fight.
Right now, Tasmania is in the midst of a critical debate.
Independent Upper House member Mike Gaffney has introduced a bill that would legalise voluntary assisted dying in Tasmania.
In response, a pop-up group, ‘Live & Die Well’ has emerged as one of the key voices opposing the introduction of the bill.
On its slick website, Live & Die Well claims that it was developed “by Tasmanians, for Tasmanians” and that it believes that “life at every stage is worth living.”
At face value, you’d be forgiven in thinking Live & Die Well it just a collection of concerned citizens who are merely voicing their concerns about the introduction of voluntary assisted dying in Tasmania, right?
Wrong. As Neil Francis exposes in his article ‘How the religious hide their true identity’ in reality, Live & Die Well is a group that is entirely funded and staffed by the Catholic Church.
The group leader, Ben Smith, is actually the Director of the Life, Marriage and Family Office at the Catholic Archdiocese of Hobart and the group’s other ‘teammates’ are heavily involved in Christian movement.
Yet, none of this is disclosed on Live & Die Well’s website. In fact, the word ‘religion’ is not ever mentioned.
The nature of the opposition to voluntary assisted dying in Tasmania demonstrates just what we’re up against in our battle against the Morrison government’s Religious Discrimination Bill.
Our opponents, like the Catholic Church, are well funded and highly organised and will resort to dubious tactics to ensure their views win the day.
That’s why we need your help.

We need to grow our movement into a force that will have its voice heard when the Religious Discrimination Bill again comes before Federal Parliament.
Thank you once again for your incredible support!
