Another rent day is coming up fast, and there is still no relief in sight for how everyday Americans can pay their rent or mortgage without fear of financial ruin. We know this: freezing evictions is NOT ENOUGH.
Over 540,000 of you have signed the petition but we still need people in power to hear your message loud and clear. We want policymakers to understand what rent day is like for you and your loved ones who are fighting to keep a roof over your head. And we want them to know that your mortgage or rent money isn’t just a number of dollars—it’s your home. It’s where you are safe and sheltered from the storm.
We’re asking you to send in a quick video of yourself speaking to why rent and mortgage relief is so urgent for you. We have a team that will compile videos, and we’ll share the final product on social media and send it directly to decision makers who have the power to freeze mortgage and rent payments.
Here’s what to do:
- Videos should be no more than 30 seconds.
- If you use your phone, make sure you record horizontally.
- Go to the part of your home that has provided you with the greatest sense of comfort during this crisis. (It could be your bathtub, your closet, your kitchen, your front yard—whatever part of your house that feels most like home).
- Hit record and share your story: Why has this part of your home been a safe place during the COVID-19 crisis? How would rent or mortgage relief help you keep your home and stay safe?
Send your video as soon as possible (no later than midnight on Tuesday, May 26) to this email: myvideoforchange@gmail.com. You don't have to say your name/location. We won't share your personal info. We just want to help the powers that be to understand that rent is more than a check. It’s our homes on the line.
