The Penguin Who Loved Me

“The Penguin Who Loved Me” is another episode from the show that’s availability is surprisingly rare. Aside from being among the Season 3 episodes featured on Paramount+, which for some reason doesn’t have every episode available, “The Penguin Who Loved Me” isn’t available on either home video or other streaming channels.

The episode as a whole plays a significant part in the show. Not only was it the show’s series finale, but it was the third episode to feature the Penguins number #1 nemesis: Dr. Blowhole, with Neil Patrick Harris reprising the role. Plus, after being mentioned countless times throughout the show, Doris the Dolphin (Kowalski’s former love interest) finally makes an appearance. Along with Doris being revealed as Blowhole’s sister, and her brother’s real name being Francis, the character in question is played by Calista Flockhart. The episode also features a cameo of Manfredi and Johnson, who were constantly mentioned by Skipper in previous episodes, and are voiced by Danny Jacobs and James Patrick Stuart. Ironically, in spite of Skipper often saying that they died or something like that, both characters turned out to be unwilling inhabitants of Seaville. 

In addition to Harris’s reprisal as Blowhole, and Flockhart’s involvement as Doris, the episode also features a guest appearance by Ty Burrel, who voices Parker the duck-billed platypus.

In all honesty, I always found it to be strange that this episode isn’t as available compared to the other Dr. Blowhole episodes. Heck, “Dr. Blowhole’s Revenge” and “The Return of the Revenge of Dr. Blowhole” were released together in a DVD combo dedicated to the character, but none of the episodes could be released as a triple feature?! Why?!

In whatever case, the fact that “The Penguin Who Loved Me” isn’t available on very many platforms or on home video is another reason for why this campaign is important to me.
