Update from Planning Board Meeting on 5/1

     The Planning Board meeting was well attended and the folks in opposition were able to voice their concerns and gather a little bit more information about the plans of the developer.  The concerns included:  not being harmonious with the existing surrounding subdivisions; overburdening the area with too many new homes/cars and traffic/children in the schools/etc; devaluing homes in the neighborhood and surrounding; creating and perpetuating problems within the infrastructure with regards to safety and movement during emergency situations (namely hurricanes and potential Brunswick nuclear plant issues).  

     While the board members listened, and some raised similar concerns, they were not there to make a vote that day.  Special Use Permit procedure does not allow them to make a decision or vote on their findings, just to ask questions and provide some feedback or guidance to the opposition and the developer.  While we are working hard to secure "expert testimony"  (at an extreme financial expense), we do still need help getting the word out and sharing this petition.  The Board of Commissioners make the final decision and if the community shows their opposition to this project as it's planned, they will take that into account when decide if it is "harmonious" with the area.
