Today, the Covenant House representative sent the following email to Oakland Park staff and commissioners:
"On behalf of the applicant, this correspondence serves as a notice that the above application is hereby withdrawn from consideration. As a result, there will be no resubmittal of the reviewed plans."
In short, this project will not be coming to 2880 W Oakland Park Blvd.
A HUGE thank-you to everyone for making this happen. This outcome is a testament to the value and power of collaboration and cooperation. While this journey has, at times, felt like an uphill battle, we were able to protect our neighborhoods and businesses because all of us came together to make our voices heard.
Often times, it can feel like “Why bother? The fix is in. It doesn’t matter what my opinion is.” You have proved that nothing is a foregone conclusion. You spoke up, you sent emails, you made phone calls, you distributed flyers, you donated funds, and you canvassed neighborhoods and businesses. AND IT WORKED.
We have prevailed. So what’s next?
We all believe in the potential for a vibrant and thriving west Oakland Park. With that in mind, let’s keep the Westside Coalition going and engage with the city, local businesses, and each other to make that vision a reality.
