My concerns grew as I learned more about the potential impact this industrial and technological venture could have on our natural resources, environment, and the communities that rely on them. The Pax Silica initiative aims to expand industrial growth within the Philippines by exploring and utilizing silica, a mineral crucial for various technological applications. If not managed carefully, silica mining could lead to soil degradation, deforestation, and water contamination, disrupting local communities who depend on these environments for their livelihoods.

A 2021 report from the Environmental Science Institute highlighted that unchecked mining activities could accelerate biodiversity loss by up to 8% annually. We cannot afford such repercussions, particularly when our country is already grappling with climate change and vulnerability to natural disasters.

Our government's obligation should be to safeguard our environment, natural resources, and long-term national interests. This requires rejecting initiatives that bypass rigorous evaluation and community involvement. By prioritizing sustainability, we can ensure that development does not come at the expense of future generations.
