We are a diverse group of event-goers who want to celebrate the rightful place of chill-out rooms in our nightclubs and live music venues. Chill-out rooms, which foster a relaxing, convivial environment in an otherwise overwhelming night out, formed an integral part of our cultural landscape in the early days of dance and live music events. Amid the frenetic energy of the dance floor, these spaces offered a place of respite and conversation – a venue within a venue to create memories, form friends and share your experiences.

Chill-out rooms offered genuine diversity to music programming and avenues for human interactions, something which we find missing in these rapidly commercialising spaces. Yet, despite acting as the thumping heartbeat of our collective nightlife memories, these chill-out rooms have been phased out for several commercial reasons.

We understand that reinstating chill-out rooms requires additional operational and logistical considerations. We advocate for a compromise where the location and setting are favorable and where the attendees' safety and pleasure are prioritized. To that end, each signature on this petition suggests one space where they would appreciate a chill-out room.

Turning these rooms back into reality would not simply mean rehashing the past but evolving to a more unified and inclusive future for our nightlife and for us, the attendees. The reintroduction of these rooms would significantly contribute to increasing camaraderie amongst event-goers, fulfilling the true essence of attending mass events—to enjoy, connect and create lasting memories.
