We have a critical update regarding the proposed merger of Baker School District with Helix Community Schools. The situation is escalating rapidly, and we need your immediate attention and action.

As many of you know, the Baker School District is facing a potential transition to a Type 3 charter system through a merger with Helix Community Schools. This move poses significant risks to our community and the quality of education our children receive.

What is a Type 3 Charter and Why is it Problematic?

Type 3 charters, unlike traditional public schools, operate with greater autonomy and less local oversight. This can lead to:

• Reduced Local Control: The Baker community will lose significant control over curriculum, school policies, and resource allocation. Decisions will be made by Helix's governing board, potentially without adequate community input.

  Potential for Profit-Driven Motives: Charter schools, particularly those managed by larger organizations, can prioritize financial interests over educational quality. This may lead to cuts in essential programs and services.
