Reinstate Wizz Air's Basel-Kutaisi direct flight route
The Issue
To Wizz Air Management
We, the Georgian community living in Switzerland, Germany (especially Baden‑Württemberg), and the French border regions near Strasbourg and Mulhouse, respectfully ask Wizz Air to restore the direct flight route between Basel (BSL) and Kutaisi (KUT).
This route was an essential connection for many Georgians who regularly travel to Georgia for family visits, studies, work, and tourism. Since its discontinuation in 2022, travelers have been forced to rely on inconvenient alternatives:
- flights with long and exhausting layovers, or
- long trips to airports such as Memmingen or Frankfurt‑Hahn just to reach Kutaisi.
These alternatives are costly, time‑consuming, and especially difficult for families, elderly travelers, and students.
Before 2022, the Basel–Kutaisi route was widely used and appreciated. Its cancellation was not due to low demand, but due to the exceptional circumstances of the COVID‑19 pandemic, when many routes worldwide became impossible to operate. Today, the situation has changed completely: travel between Europe and Georgia has increased, communities have grown, and the Basel–Freiburg–Strasbourg region remains an important travel hub.
A restored Basel–Kutaisi route would greatly improve travel for thousands of people, strengthen regional mobility, and support cultural and social ties between Georgia and Europe.
We kindly urge Wizz Air to reconsider and reinstate this important route. We call on all Georgians in Switzerland, Germany, and the French border regions to sign this petition and show Wizz Air how essential this connection is for our communities.
