The Issue

Since 2021, I and many others have felt the negative effect of the Indiana Department of Transportation's decision to stop printing paper maps. In a world that's swiftly going digital, there's a distinct group of us still longing for the tangible connection paper maps provide. Many are those who prefer not to use the internet, but there's also our significant Amish community, who maintain a lifestyle free of technology. The claim of low demand doesn't justify the complete discontinuation unless every single Hoosier agrees to it, which certainly isn't the case.

Additionally, it's not solely about preference but inclusivity. By removing access to these physical maps, we are undermining those who don't wish or can’t engage with the internet. We also lose an important piece of our Hoosier heritage and culture, a nostalgia that's eagerly sought by tourists visiting our state.

This isn't a plea to print paper maps in the quantity they once were, but to reinstate a limited printing program. It's a middle ground, one that caters to the needs of all Indiana residents.

By signing this petition, you're supporting the call to the Indiana Department of Transportation to reconsider its decision and once again print and distribute paper maps. Let's stand together in preserving the inclusivity, heritage, and culture of our state. Please, sign this petition. We need your voice.
