Reinstate the death penalty to stop femicides
The Issue
Women are dying. It feels like every day we hear about another woman who has been brutally murdered, leaving families shattered and communities in fear. The rate at which women are getting killed is not just alarming, it is unacceptable. This is why I am calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty for those who commit atrocious acts of violence against women.
Consider the harrowing statistics: according to UNODC's Global Study on Homicide, about 137 women across the world are killed by a family member every day. In many places, including where I live, femicide rates have increased significantly over recent years, leaving us feeling less and less safe. Why should the lives of our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends be less worthy of justice?
The death penalty acts as a powerful deterrent to crime, especially when the crime is premeditated and committed with specific intent. When faced with the ultimate punishment, potential perpetrators may be discouraged from carrying out heinous acts of violence. Additionally, reinstating the death penalty sends a clear message that our society will not tolerate murder—as gender-based violence escalates, so should our resolve to combat it with the utmost seriousness.
Implementing this measure would require strict legal protocols to ensure fair trials and the elimination of wrongful convictions. We need to prioritize funds to improve investigative methods and provide ongoing training for law enforcement in dealing with gender-based crimes. It's time for a legal framework that reflects our commitment to protecting women and delivering justice.
Women deserve to feel safe, and families deserve peace of mind, knowing that justice is not just a word, but a promise acted upon. By reinstating the death penalty for these grievous crimes, we not only honor the lives lost but strive to prevent others from suffering the same fate.
Stand with me in making this change possible. Protect our women, demand justice for all the lives affected by such brutal acts. Sign this petition and urge our legal systems to adopt stricter measures for those who choose to harm our women.
