This petition is closing in on 1000 signatures after just 10 days (as at 23/07/23). Once that target is hit, we will be sending an email with the details to both the Minister of Transport, David Parker, and the CEO of NZTA Waka Kotahi., reminding them that there the Te Huia Service cannot simply be shut down, when other trains running through Auckland also do not have the safety system that they are demanding is fitted to the Te Huia Train.

In an interview with Radio NZ, Waka Kotahi's Neil Cook stated the following, proving there was no risk to any other train, and the safety system on board the train correctly shut the train down, as it was designed to do:-

"In the case with the incident in Penrose, the Auckland commuter train hadn't entered the zone where conflict could have taken place and the electronic systems on that train shut it down, so in this particular case a harmful incident was averted."
