Happy New Year!

I have received the following replies to my letter to Helen Weir – firstly, from Mrs. Weir herself, and then following this, from CEO Russ Jefferys.

Helen Weir’s Response:

“Dear Ms Taylor,

Many thanks for your email - and congratulations on my appointment.  I am very much looking forward to taking on the role of Chair of such an organisation which has such a far-reaching impact.  One of the elements which makes parkrun so special is the fact that it is ‘for everyone’: from the fastest runner to the slowest walker - and I recognise that we need to make sure that it stays that way.

I am thoughtful about a number of the points you make in your note.  However, having come only relatively recently to this issue, and having only just taken on the role of Chair, I hope you will allow me some time to hear differing perspectives (including yours) and to work with management to try and find the best resolution.

Thank you for getting in touch with me.

Kindest regards,

Helen Weir”

Russ Jefferys’ Response:

“Hi Mary,

Happy New Year - I hope you are well.

Helen Weir mentioned earlier that you had been in touch on email. I wanted to let you know that we have been listening to feedback and discussing the issues you and others have raised internally.

I do think there is a way forward that balances our strategic priorities whilst also acknowledging we can do more to support those who want to have access to a broader set of statistics and data. I have asked the team to explore ways in which we might achieve this.

To that end, it would be good to chat through what we're thinking, ideally later this month if you have time? I'd suggest this is a phone call or virtual meeting, just the two of us in the first instance.

If this works for you, perhaps you can let me know dates/times that suit w/c 20 Jan.

All the best,

Russ Jefferys

These responses are both welcome and encouraging, particularly for their positive and constructive approach. I am confident that a mutually acceptable solution can be achieved — one that supports parkrun’s long-term strategies while restoring access to the statistics that have inspired and motivated so many. Where there's a will, there's a way!

I look forward to hearing what ideas they put forward and will share any updates as soon as I have them.
