Reinstate my position at Amathole Funerals Service
The Issue
In April 2026, I faced an unfair dismissal from my job at Amathole Funerals Service's Pietermaritzburg branch. This decision was not based on my performance or dedication to my role, but rather due to an illness that left me vulnerable and in need of understanding from my employer. Losing my job not only impacted me financially, but also emotionally, as I was part of a team that I deeply valued and contributed to with diligence and passion.
My illness was a temporary but significant setback, yet rather than receiving support and accommodation during that tough period, I was dismissed. This action was both unexpected and unfair, leaving me and my family in a precarious situation, struggling to meet our needs without the income I depended on.
The Employment Equity Act in South Africa is clear about the rights of workers facing discrimination, ensuring fair practices and prohibiting dismissals based on health conditions. Yet, sometimes these laws are not upheld, leading to unjust consequences for employees like myself who work hard and find themselves penalized in times of hardship.
By signing this petition, you stand with me in urging Amathole Funerals Service to reconsider their decision and provide the opportunity for a fair and just resolution. My request is not just for my own reinstatement, but also to safeguard the rights of other employees who might find themselves in a similar situation in the future. I am calling on the management and decision-makers at Amathole Funerals to adhere to principles of fairness and establish a precedent that supports and stands by its employees in accordance with labor laws.
Please sign this petition to support my plea for justice and to help ensure a workplace environment that respects and protects its workers' rights across all branches of Amathole Funerals Service. Together, we can make a difference in promoting transparency, fairness, and support for employees during their times of need.
