Dear McGill Track & Field and Cross Country Athletes, Alumni & Friends,

We hope you are doing well and are ready for spring. Thank you for all of your incredible support in this campaign. We have been working hard behind the scenes and wanted to share a brief update on the program.

FOMTF and the McGill Team Captains have been actively engaged with the McGill Athletics & Recreation Strategic Planning Task Force and the Provost’s Office, contributing through both in-person meetings and written submissions. While no specific pathway to reinstatement has been outlined at this time, conversations remain constructive and ongoing.

In parallel, Friends of McGill Cross Country and Track & Field continues to organize, formalizing our governance and strengthening our communication, to work alongside the University in support of the program’s future and long-term success. Contact us at the email below to get involved.

Season Recap

It has been a strong indoor season for McGill Track & Field. At the RSEQ Championships, the Redbirds and Martlets combined for eight gold medals, with multiple podium performances, four McGill school records and one RSEQ provincial record set across the meet, bringing the season total to seven McGill school records.

On the national stage, McGill was well represented at the U SPORTS Championships. The Redbirds finished 10th overall, highlighted by two silver medals from Gerstner and Hepworth, while the Martlets were led by Julie Bortolato’s fifth-place finish and strong scoring performances across events.

Across the season, McGill athletes earned multiple RSEQ All-Star selections, including a Performance of the Year award, reinforcing the program’s competitive strength and upward momentum.

How you can help

We are also encouraged by the strong response from our community. Our pledge drive has now reached $183,000, sending a clear signal about the commitment behind this program. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Our goal remains $300,000 to help bridge the financing of the program, and we continue to welcome your support: https://www.friendsofmcgilltf.ca/how-you-can-help/

As part of this effort, we encourage all supporters to continue reaching out to decision-makers, add your voice, stay engaged, and help keep this conversation active. Every voice counts, and we know it is making a difference, McGill has told us that. You can find a list of key contacts on our website.

Alumni and Friends Network

We are building a comprehensive alumni and friends network and encourage all former athletes, coaches, and supporters to stay connected: Sign up Here

Looking ahead, we are excited to gather as a community at the 29th Annual Friends of McGill Cross-Country, Track & Field Banquet | A 125+ Year Celebration on April 9 at the McGill Faculty Club.

As part of the evening, we are building a 125-year retrospective slideshow to help make this a truly special evening. Dig out those old albums, the boxes in the basement, the team photos, the grainy race shots, the moments that haven’t seen the light of day in years, we would love to bring them back to life.

To share photos, receive the upload link, or enquire about banquet ticketing, please contact: friendsofmcgilltrack@gmail.com

While we remain engaged in the broader process, our focus is clear: maintaining momentum, strengthening our community, and positioning the program for reinstatement.

Thank you for your continued support.
