Hello supporters

On Friday, as you all know, mandatory COVID isolation was scrapped. In response, our team sent a letter out to all members of National Cabinet with the petition attached. The following is a copy of the letter we sent to Anthony Albanese.

The Hon. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, MP

14th October 2022

Submission of a petition protesting the scrapping of mandatory COVID isolation

Dear Prime Minister

I’m writing to present the petition of 11,300 Australians (and counting) who are opposed to the scrapping of mandatory COVID isolation. The petition features hundreds of comments from concerned and vulnerable Australians, voicing their opposition to National Cabinet’s decision.

This is a milestone submission, as today is the final day that people infected with a highly transmissible airborne virus that inflames the blood vessels and weakens the immune system are required to refrain from spreading it. But it's not the end of the campaign. This is a fully grass roots petition with no previous organisational structure or political affiliation.

This year, COVID became Australia’s third most common cause of death, killing more people than stroke and lung cancer. COVID killed 40 times more Australians than influenza this year - and without the isolation rules that National Cabinet has just abolished, it would have killed even more. Additionally, up to 400,000 Australians are suffering from the long-term effects of COVID, with that number set to increase as new variants inevitably lead to yet another wave of cases.

Ending mandatory COVID isolation will permanently increase infection rates, bringing death and disability to more and more Australians. The clinically vulnerable will be hardest hit; they are effectively excluded from society by this decision. Of particular concern are babies, toddlers and preschoolers with cancer, congenital heart disease, type 1 diabetes, and other types of severe immunocompromise, disability or complex health problems, who have not yet had the chance to be fully vaccinated. Ending mandatory COVID isolation today will adversely affect all Australians, especially high risk little kids.

We implore you to take the time to read the comments from everyday Australians and reconsider whether removing policies that protect public health is really the right decision. Do you really believe there is nothing more we can do to ensure that no Australian is left behind?

Yours sincerely,

Kurt Friday
