Through the efforts of so many humans this little petition I started in March of 2022 reached over 100k people and was signed by nearly 30k supporters.
This was just one of many ways we fought decision makers to do the right thing.
In the end, the power of social media and the power of people coming together is what helped to overturn this decision.
In March 2022 my sons critical seizure care plan was revoked by Nursing Support Services.
Since then he’s had no emergency rescue medication at school.
We wrote letters. Called. Emailed. Went to the news. Newspapers. Schools. District. Ministry. Ombudsman. Patient Care Quality Office. Connected with other outraged parents of medically complex children. Kept writing and calling. Didn’t give up. Even though we were told no time and time again. With no options. No empathy. No care.
And it worked. The decision was overturned and my son, and ALL kids in British Columbia will have access to rescue meds at school for seizures. Our kids can go to school safely and earn an education they so rightfully deserve.
We should never have had to fight this. But the system is broken. This put a piece back. One step at a time. This proves one person, one group, one collective effort can change the damn world.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
With gratitude,
Steph, Mark & the person this was started for - Noah. And all kiddos like Noah.
