The Issue

As a disabled person living in Lancashire, I rely on my NowCard to travel to and from work using public transport. Until recently, I was able to travel before 9:30am on weekdays by paying a £1 fare. This made it possible for me — and many others — to get to work, medical appointments, and essential early commitments affordably.

Since April 2025, the removal of this option has meant I now pay full fare, more than doubling my weekly travel costs from £10 to over £20. To manage this, I have to buy a 7-day travel ticket — even though I only work 5 days — meaning I’m paying for two days I don’t use, just to get to work during the week. For many disabled people on limited incomes, this is not sustainable or fair.

We ask Lancashire County Council and Blackpool Council to work together to reinstate the £1 early morning fare for NowCard users, or to provide a fair and affordable alternative that recognises the essential need for accessible travel — not just after 9:30am, but whenever it’s needed most.

Access should not be restricted by the clock.
